Licensed Roadworthy Inspections (RWC)

A Roadworthy Certificate confirms a vehicle meets minimum Victorian safety standards. It is required when selling, transferring ownership or re-registering a vehicle.

We can perform roadworthy inspections for all cars, light commercial vehicles, taxis and motorbikes, by checking your vehicle's essential parts and safety.

Inspection Areas include:

  • Tyres and wheels
  • Braking systems
  • Suspension and steering components
  • Windscreen and wipers
  • Lighting and electrical safety systems
  • Seatbelts and seats
  • Body and Chassis inspection to confirm the vehicle structure
  • Checking for leaks in any engine fluid
A RWC inspection is a safety inspection only. It does not assess overall mechanical reliability or long-term condition.

If repairs are required, we provide clear written quotes. Once rectified, the vehicle is re-inspected at no extra cost to finalise certification.

FAQs about Roadworthy Inspections

Most inspections take between 45 minutes and 90 minutes, depending on vehicle type and condition. You may need to leave your vehicle with us longer depending on how busy the workshop is on the day you are getting inspected. Please check timing with us when you book.

If issues are identified, repairs will need to be completed before certification can be issued.

In Victoria, a Roadworthy Certificate is valid for 30 days from the date of issue. If the vehicle is not registered or transferred within that period, a new inspection may be required.

If your vehicle does not meet minimum safety standards, you will receive a list of required repairs.

You typically have 14 days to complete the repairs and return for a re-inspection. If repairs are not completed within that timeframe, a full inspection may be required again.

This is one of the most misunderstood areas in vehicle sales.

  • A Roadworthy Certificate (RWC) confirms that a vehicle meets minimum legal safety requirements at the time of inspection.
  • A pre-purchase inspection, on the other hand, is a much more detailed mechanical assessment. Pre-purchase inspections examine:
    • Engine condition
    • Transmission performance
    • Cooling system health
    • Oil leaks
    • Suspension wear
    • Signs of accident damage
    • General maintenance history

An RWC does not guarantee that the vehicle is mechanically sound or free from future repair costs. It simply confirms that it meets minimum safety standards required by law.

Anyone buying a used vehicle should consider a pre-purchase inspection in addition to confirming a valid Roadworthy Certificate.

Yes. In most cases, a current Roadworthy Certificate is required when selling or transferring registration of a vehicle in Victoria.

There are limited exceptions, such as transferring registration to a spouse or when selling unregistered.

Yes. If repairs are required, we provide a clear written quote before any work begins. Once completed, the vehicle can be re-inspected to finalise certification.

Couple of weeks ago I had a nail in my tyre and needed it repaired quickly. I went to 2 other tyre places in Moe. First said he doesn't have the time to fix it, the next said sorry we shut in 4 mins. I drove past Tyrepower and noticed the rollar door up. It was after hours but I still called to try my luck. Luckily for me they answered and were willing to fix my tyre then and there. He worked back nearly an hour and a half past knock off time and still fit me in. Drove away more then a happy customer.🙂

Thank you to Moe Tyrepower for assistance after my tyre blew out on the highway. You checked the damaged tyre and gave good advice on my options - and then would not take payment for your time and the work you did. I appreciated your help when I was so far from home.

Fitted a complicated aftermarket rear camber kit for me. Did a great job for a reasonable price on my Classic 1985 Mercedes. Good Tradesman as they were able to achieve a good result without removing seats 💺 etc to get at suspension components. Lots of other Workshops would just avoid the job. 🙏 handles great and negative camber from first photo reduced to stop tire wear.
